On the morning of Thursday, 12 December, former BBGL Chairman John Cockcroft and Executive Secretary, Seng Xayphrakassa attended presentations and the MoU signing between the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Agency (MSMEPA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) for Cambodia and Laos. Director General of MSMEPA, Dr. Bounpheng Sibounheung chaired the proceedings.
Dr. Bounpheng and HE Excellency, Bountheung Douangsavanh, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, spoke variously about the need for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Laos to engage bookkeeping and accountancy services personnel for their companies and to have accurate accounting records available for their businesses.
Divisional Director Mr. Oh Saisanith, of the Accounting Regulatory Department at the Ministry of Finance, and Associate Professor PIya Wongpit, Divisional Director of the Economic and Business Administration Faculty, National University of Laos gave insight into what help and guidance was available to MSMEs to provide the necessary accounting records to satisfy the current and future regulations.
ACCA brought Mr. Sim Chankiroth,a Cambodian and ACCA Fellow and Global MSME Forum Working Group Member to Laos to explain the development of accounting assistance to companies in Cambodia.
Ren Varma, Cluster Head of Mainland S. E. Asia for ACCA, based in Vietnam, spoke briefly about the development of ACCA through S.E. Asia and how it supports MSMEs in the region.
It was a pleasure to also welcomed again to Vientiane Ratna Neou, ACCA Country Manager for Cambodia and Laos. He brought with him the good news that ACCA has now joined the British Business Group in Lao PDR as Overseas Member.
The next afternoon, on Friday, John Cockcroft accompanied Ratna and Ren to the British Embassy to meet and pay respects to our Ambassador, Mel Barlow and the Embassy Business representative, Buddhawan Maharath.
