What a night! Thank you to all who joined us for Burns Night Supper 2026!
The British Business Group / British Chamber of Commerce in Laos hosted its annual Burns Night Supper. Bringing a robust slice of Scottish culture to the heart of Laos, the evening was a delightful mix of tradition, networking and celebrations.
Following a welcome address from Lee Sheridan, the Scottish traditions began with the Selkirk Grace, read by Wallace Ross. The address, named after Burns recited it at a dinner hosted by the Earl of Selkirk in 1794, is a traditional Scots prayer or blessing recited before a meal to express gratitude.
Some hae meat and canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it;
But we hae meat, and we can eat,
Sae let the Lord be thankit.
This was followed by a dance performace of the Reel of the 51st Division by the Fanglao Dance Troupe.

A sumptious 5-course meal was preceeded by the Piping in of the Haggis, and the Address to the Haggis, again read by Wallace Ross. Over dinner, guests where treated to an overview of the life and legacy of Robert Burns, wonderfully shared by Fergus Ferguson through the traditional Immortal Memory.

Dinner was followed by the ‘Toast to the Lassies’ by Steve Wood, with the susbequent ‘Response to the Laddies’ provided by Nickie Hansen.

The evening entertainment continued with the tasting of some fine Scottish whiskies, a fun quiz, and plenty of dancing with the skilled dancers of the Fang Lao Dance Troupe.
